Sound Systems

A sound system is an essential part of the Special Needs sensory experience and because of this we do not recommend the use of domestic Hi-Fi units for commercial or professional applications. With reliability an overriding consideration we have not found it wise to use Hi-Fi “music centres” as should a fault develop with the amplifier or CD player or with any of the controls the whole system will fail leaving the installation with no source of music or speech. Also most domestic Hi-Fi units do not offer a microphone facility, making them unsuitable for "voice therapy" purposes.

Amplifier

Mixer Amplifier for Sensory systems

The amplifier used will accept inputs from a CD player, computer, MP3 player etc. and also includes two microphone inputs that automatically drop the level of the music whilst a microphone is being used. A remote volume control is installed in the sensory room to enable the supervisor to alter the music level without leaving the client or accessing the main control cabinet.

CD Player

6 Disc CD Player

A 6-disc CD player can be installed in your sensory room that is capable of playing both normal audio CD’s and CD’s containing MP3 files enabling you to create your own sounds on CD to be played back in the sensory room. A remote control is provided in the sensory room allowing your supervisor to select any CD or track without leaving the client.

Loudspeakers

High Quality Foreground Speakers

The loudspeakers installed are high quality commercial speakers capable of providing sparkling audio reproduction over long periods of time. Wherever possible four of these speakers are installed, one in each corner of the sensory room to provide a "surround sound" type environment without having to be played at high volume. The importance of the sound quality cannot be over emphasized, particularly when used for calming and relaxation. The sensory systems that we install are designed to literally "bathe" the user in quality sound.

Microphone

Radio Microphone

A radio microphone can be supplied which allows the user to practice voice therapy with the reward of hearing their own voice through the sound system. It is also possible to activate the sensory room lighting by making noises into the microphone, changing the whole colour of the multisensory room with each word or noise. Less expensive microphones using connecting cables are also available.

Main Control Equipment

Main Control cabinet Main Control Cabinet with Padding

All of the audio and lighting controls are installed in a lockable steel cabinet which, whenever possible, is installed away from the sensory room. In cases where the main control cabinet has to be installed in the sensory room, it is possible to fit the cabinet with cushioned padding if required. The controllers in the cabinet do not have to be accessed by the teacher or carer.

Control Cabinet Dimensions: 990mm H x 550mm W x 460mm D
